Legacy Minecraft, launched properly.

Xol is a desktop launcher and a cosmetic HUD client for Minecraft: Java Edition 1.8.9 and 1.7.10. It installs the game from Mojang, signs you in through Microsoft in your own browser, and changes nothing about how the game plays.

The launcher

Everything between double-click and the title screen.

Old versions of Minecraft need an old Java, an old Forge and a lot of patience. Xol handles all of it, checks every file it downloads, and keeps each setup in its own folder.

Official files, verified

The game, its libraries, assets and the matching Java runtime come straight from Mojang's servers and are checked against Mojang's SHA-1 checksums. Forge installers are pinned by SHA-256 and read as data, never executed. If a file is damaged, Repair re-downloads only that file.

Signed updates

Every launcher release carries an Ed25519 signature over its size and hash. Xol checks the signature against keys built into the app, refuses replays and downgrades, and verifies the download before anything is opened.

Isolated instances

Each profile has its own saves, settings, resource packs and mods folder. Clone one to experiment; uninstalling the launcher leaves your instances where they are.

Performance presets

Maximum FPS, Balanced, Quality and Battery Saver. Each one is a plain list of video settings merged into options.txt, with the trade-offs written out before you pick.

Readable when it breaks

Real progress while installing, plain-language errors, and a support log with tokens, e-mail addresses, IP addresses and home-folder paths removed. Crash reports are sent only if you switch them on.

The client

A HUD you arrange yourself.

Thirteen small display modules, all off by default except the FPS counter. Press Right Shift for settings, drag anything anywhere in the editor, and save layouts per instance.

HUD editor

Drag to move, scroll to scale, snap to guides, re-anchor to any corner. Layouts survive resolution and GUI-scale changes.

Modules

Each one only reads what the game already shows you.

  • FPS
  • Ping
  • Coordinates
  • CPS
  • Keystrokes
  • Armor & held item
  • Potion effects
  • Session timer
  • Toggle sprint
  • Zoom
  • Custom crosshair
  • Resource packs
  • Chat appearance

Fair play

Display only. By design.

Xol is not a cheat client and will not become one. Every module is reviewed against one rule: it may read what vanilla already shows you and draw it differently, and nothing else.

What Xol does

  • Draws HUD elements from your own client state: frame rate, your position, your armor, your key presses.
  • Identifies itself honestly. Xol profiles send the client brand Xol, so servers can see what you are running.
  • Keeps Forge's normal handshake intact, so a server sees the same mod list it would see from any Forge client.
  • Lets you switch any module off, per instance.

What Xol never does

  • Change movement, combat, reach, hitboxes or interaction timing.
  • Send, delay, reorder, cancel or edit a packet.
  • Generate, repeat or modify clicks and key presses.
  • Reveal anything the vanilla game hides: no ESP, no X-ray, no player or entity highlighting.
  • Hide from servers or anti-cheat, or pretend to be another client.

Servers make their own rules, and some forbid any modified client or specific features such as toggle sprint. Check the rules of the server you play on. Xol does not claim to be approved by any server.

Sign-in

Your password never touches Xol.

Xol uses Microsoft's standard sign-in for desktop apps. The sign-in page opens in your own browser, on Microsoft's site. Read the full walkthrough.

  1. Your browser opens

Xol opens login.microsoftonline.com in your default browser. You sign in there, with your usual two-factor prompts.

  2. Microsoft hands back a code

A one-time code returns to Xol on your own computer (OAuth 2.0 with PKCE). There is no client secret and no server in the middle.

  3. Xbox Live, then Minecraft

Xol exchanges it with Xbox Live and Minecraft Services, then checks that the account owns Minecraft: Java Edition.

  4. Stored on your device

Tokens are sealed by your operating system: Keychain on macOS, DPAPI on Windows. They are never uploaded anywhere.

Questions

Asked before you ask.

Do I need to own Minecraft?

Yes. Xol signs you in with the Microsoft account that owns Minecraft: Java Edition and checks the entitlement before it launches anything. It does not include, redistribute or unlock the game. All game files are downloaded from Mojang's own servers to your computer.

Is Xol allowed on public servers?

Xol changes nothing about gameplay and reports its own name to servers, but every server sets its own rules and some do not allow any modified client. Read the rules of the server you play on. Toggle sprint in particular is forbidden on a few servers and is off by default.

Can Xol see my Microsoft password?

No. You type it into Microsoft's page in your own browser. Xol only ever receives tokens that Microsoft issues for the two scopes it asks for, and they stay on your device in the operating system's secure store. The sign-in page explains each step.

What does Xol send to its own servers?

The launcher checks for updates and announcements, sending its version, operating system and CPU architecture along with your Xol access key. Crash reports are off until you turn them on, and are redacted before they leave your computer. Your Microsoft and Minecraft tokens are never sent to Xol. Details are in the privacy policy.

Does it work with OptiFine?

Xol cannot download or bundle OptiFine, because OptiFine's licence does not allow redistribution. There is an import flow instead: you download the jar from optifine.net yourself and Xol sets up a profile around it.

Will there be newer Minecraft versions?

Yes. A modern profile built on Fabric is on the roadmap after the legacy versions are solid.

Is Xol affiliated with Mojang or Microsoft?

No. Xol is an independent project. It is not an official Minecraft product and is not approved by or associated with Mojang or Microsoft.

Want to try it early?

Builds are invite-only for now. Send a short note with your operating system and we will get back to you when a tester slot opens.
